One of the things that we spend the least amount of time considering is our travel insurance when it could be the most important thing we do to protect ourselves whilst on holiday.

Whilst many people go on a standard two week tourist holiday many other do plan a sporting holiday. Golf, skiing and snow boarding are very popular but a standard policy is unlikely to give you comprehensive cover. Sporting holidays are more dangerous and you are more likely to get injured compared to other travellers. You will also more likely be travelling with expensive sports equipment which you will want to ensure is properly protected.
Many young people also try backpacking across America, these types of holiday require backpackers travel insurance. This is because you will be away for longer and staying in more places. This special type of insurance policy will cover you for the likely events associated with backpacking.
For the rest of the majority of holiday makers you will either require a single trip insurance policy or an annual multi trip policy. Whilst the annual cover is more expensive it often works out cheaper if you are planning on travelling abroad on several separate holidays in one year.
If you are a retired you may find that getting insurance may be more difficult or more expensive. If you have a pre-existing condition you will have to contact your insurer to discuss cover for your condition. The reason for this is that the insurer will not only want to know the potential risk to them, the likelihood that you may make a claim that could turn out to be expensive.
